Can't imagine the pain of she'd gone through. And i can't also imagine losing someone i love so much for just because of some sociopaths. The movie is all about vengeance and putting justice in own hands. I might have done the same too if i was put in that same kind of situation. I love the part when Answer song was played in accordance with the slow moving scenes and acts of making love. It's so moving and so passionate.

M - The name of the song (ironically) is "The Answer". It was taken from her 2003 album "Afterglow" (according to reviews on Amazon.com), and much as I may seem to disparage it in my review, it would be disingenuous of me not to say that I loved it. Why the hesitation on my part? Just the usual male reticence about admitting fondness for McLachlan. Should she be a guilty pleasure? Maybe not, but there it is. She just seems to be a bit AOR sometimes for my edgy/hipster/wannebecool taste, but there's no denying she has a wondrous voice. The song, like so much that saves "The Brave One", is probably better than the material deserves. Part of the reason I think the movie manages to be affecting (almost despite itself) is that it looks and sounds like it ought to wrench your heart.

Hedwig - I think you *can* judge a movie on failed ambitions. Why not? We judge movies based on lesser things. Jodie and co. had the option to make an edgier drama, they just chose not to. It isn't that a better movie wasn't within their grasp. "The Brave One" could have ended (plausibly) any number of other ways: you could have had Jodie dying at the end; you could have had Jodie being arrested. But any option *but* her walking off into the metaphorical sunset would probably have hurt the numbers (to use Joel Silver-speak) on the opening weekend. I think the main reason this movie goes from Oscar-calibre to Ashley Judd-territory in the last ten minutes is that certain of those involved in production figured: it'll make more money if she lives. I may have given them a pass, but they're still a mercenary bunch.

It's weird, I agree with everything you say and can't really add much. but whereas you seen to give the movie a pass - albeit with reservations - I hated it, not so much because it was one-dimensional but because I Jordan and Foster think they've made something so layered and nuanced. I suppose it's bad to judge a movie on failed ambitions and not on the final product, but I can't help it.

Anyhow, good review :-)
