About Movie Waffle

Movie Waffle is written in homage to Roger Ebert.  I started the site four years ago, when my good friend (and shrewd editor) Dr. James Siemens said: “Write something, dammit!”  Since that auspicious command, Movie Waffle has been dedicated to reviewing every conceivable type of cinema: big gaudy movies; small weird ones; world cinema; animation; music videos; movies-that-haven’t-even-been-made-yet (or, Books that Should Be Films).  Of late, thanks to a new joint venture between Movie Waffle and Andreea Tanasescu’s 10 Films, the site has also begun to cover the best short cinema available on the internet.  In 2010, Movie Waffle was nominated for the Wales Blog Awards in the category of Best Writing.  That same year, director Vincent Ward praised the site as: “insightful and beautifully wrought”.  In 2011, Movie Waffle won the Wales Blog Awards in the category of Best Music and Entertainment writing.

Dan Zukovic’s “THE LAST BIG THING”, called the “best unknown American film of the 1990’s” in the film book “Defining Moments in Movies” (Editor: Chris Fujiwara), was finally released on DVD by Vanguard Cinema. (www.vanguardcinema.com/thelastbigthing/thelastbigthing) Featuring an important early role by 2011 Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee Mark Ruffalo (“Shutter Island”, “Zodiac”, “The Kids Are Alright”), “THE LAST BIG THING” had a US theatrical release in 1998, and gained a cult following over several years of screenings on the Showtime Networks.
